FOUNDER'S WORD

Why We Started Merged Travel

"When I was a child, I often saw tourists walking around Ulaanbaatar with large backpacks, looking at their phones or maps, clearly lost and unsure where to go. I always wanted to help them, but at that time, I didn't speak English.

After learning English in high school, I began helping tourists whenever I could. But I quickly realized that one person helping occasionally was not enough. I started to notice a bigger problem — many tourists were being overcharged, misled, or taken advantage of by individuals, taxi drivers, and even some businesses. In some cases, tourists even became targets for theft. There was a clear lack of trust and reliable support.

That's when the idea of Merged Travel began.

I am currently studying in Madrid, Spain on a full scholarship, and being abroad has made me appreciate my home country even more. It has also strengthened my motivation to share Mongolia with people from around the world.

With over 7 years of experience in scouting and camping, I have developed a strong understanding of nature and outdoor life, which plays an important role in how I design these experiences.

I believe that everyone will be a tourist in another country at some point in their life. In that moment, what matters most is having someone who helps, guides, and shares their culture — not someone who tries to take advantage.

That belief is the foundation of Merged Travel."

— Tansagmergen Terbish, Founder

OUR NAME

The Story Behind Our Name

Merged was a tribe that existed during the 13th century, around the same time as Genghis Khan. The word 'Merged' is derived from the Mongolian term 'Мэргэн,' which means 'wise.' This word is also part of the founder's name.

In Mongolian history, the Merged tribe once captured Genghis Khan's queen, Börte. However, Genghis Khan, out of his deep love for Queen Börte, raised her children as his own. Afterward, the Merged tribe became part of his empire.

Our name carries that legacy — wisdom, resilience, and connection.

FOR TOURISTS

🚕

Use UBCab for Taxis

UBCab is Mongolia's main ride-hailing app. If taking a regular taxi, always negotiate and agree on the price before getting in. Avoid unmarked cars.

💵

Keep Cash Discreet

Don't flash large amounts of cash in public, especially at Narantuul Market or crowded areas.

🙅

Decline "Special Deals"

If a stranger offers you an amazing deal — politely walk away. If it sounds too good to be true, it is.

🍽️

Confirm Prices First

At non-chain cafes and restaurants, always confirm prices before ordering to avoid surprises.

📱

Secure Your Documents

Keep passport copies in a separate secure place. Save digital copies in your email or cloud.

⚠️

Fake Monks

People in robes asking for donations in the street are not real monks. Real monks don't beg — politely decline.
